The luxury river cruise vessel "Road to Mandalay" is a converted Rhine River cruise vessel.  The vessel trades on the Irawaddy River in Myanmar.  The operator is the Orient Express hotel chain, operators of the famous train of the same name, who demand a very high quality of finish and comfort for their passengers.

Hart Fenton managed a major conversion of the vessel during 1995 in Germany before it was taken by heavy lift ship to Rangoon.  The conversion work included engineering and hotel modifications and upgrades.  For passenger comfort the air conditioning system was upgraded to meet the demands of the tropical climate while the interior spaces and cabins were fully remodeled with enhanced furnishings and fittings.

The vessel's main machinery, propulsors, piping and electrical systems were serviced and refurnished.  The navigation equipment was upgraded with state of the art satellite communication systems.
