The luxury river cruise vessel "Road to Mandalay" is a
converted Rhine River cruise vessel. The vessel trades on the Irawaddy
River in Myanmar. The operator is the Orient Express hotel chain,
operators of the famous train of the same name, who demand a very high quality
of finish and comfort for their passengers.
Hart Fenton managed a major conversion of the vessel during 1995
in Germany before it was taken by heavy lift ship to Rangoon. The
conversion work included engineering and hotel modifications and upgrades.
For passenger comfort the air conditioning system was upgraded to meet the
demands of the tropical climate while the interior spaces and cabins were fully remodeled
with enhanced furnishings and fittings.
The vessel's main machinery, propulsors, piping and electrical
systems were serviced and refurnished. The navigation equipment was
upgraded with state of the art satellite communication systems.
