NUPAS-CADMATIC Introduction

Brief:
Hart Fenton identified the need to develop their steel work definition to improve speed of production and a more client friendly presentation, as well as integrating the process into the overall ship design process.

Detail:
In 2009 Hart Fenton undertook a review of various 3D steelwork and pipework design packages, with a view to improving the company’s ability to develop arrangements quickly that can be discussed and refined in light of client comments or design enhancements.  NUPAS-CADMATIC was selected and introduced in the early months of 2010.  After initial staff training was undertaken at Hart Fenton’s office in Portsmouth the NUPAS software was used for the development of a multifunctional offshore support vessel; some of the structure generated can be seen above and overleaf.  The ability to be able to view the structure in 3D greatly assists overall design development, with the added advantage that the steel weight and plate and stiffener schedules are instantly available.  Simultaneous with steelwork development, machinery space layout and pipework modelling can take place in CADMATIC ensuring any clashes with the structure are highlighted and can be dealt with immediately.  The software has recently been used in the development of the engine room arrangement and pipework systems for a 40m yacht.
